The weather this week has been inconvenient, to say the least. Each Foothill League school has been forced to reschedule or cancel events over the week to work around the temperature, which has steadily seen triple digits.
Hart High football has not changed its course schedule-wise, with a varsity game against Downey planned for 7:30 p.m. at College of the Canyons tonight. Freshmen will play at 4:15.
A Thursday brush fire that burned four acres near Cougar Stadium, however, might impact the air quality enough to alter tonight’s plans, Hart coach Mike Herrington said Thursday.
“We don’t know what the extent of the fire over there was and what the air quality might be over there,” said Herrington, who added that he has seen two Friday night Hart football games cancelled due to air quality in his career at the school.

One was played the following morning, while the other was played on Monday night.
Rescheduling a varsity football game can get tricky, according to Canyon High Athletic Director Scott Arnold
“Football is unique in rescheduling because other games you can play multiple in a week,” he said. “You have a limited window to reschedule (football).”
Canyon rescheduled today’s junior varsity football game for 9 a.m. on Saturday at home. The Cowboys’ freshman football game, originally planned for Thursday, will be in Burbank at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
As of Thursday night, however, Canyon varsity football was still set to play at 7:30 tonight at home against Burbank. The start time was pushed back half an hour.
The Cowboys cancelled golf for the entirety of the week as well as Thursday’s volleyball match and today’s tennis match.
Golden Valley cancelled its Thursday volleyball match and adjusted its football schedule, too.
The Grizzlies JV football game will begin at 5 p.m. and the varsity game will be at 7:30. Both are at Royal of Simi Valley.
Saugus football will play at Camarillo High at the originally scheduled time of 7 p.m. Centurion girls golf and tennis were both cancelled on Thursday and today’s girls volleyball match has been called off as well.
Today’s Valencia JV football game has been cancelled, according to Valencia football’s Twitter. The varsity game will be at 7 p.m. in Palmdale.
West Ranch’s varsity football game at Burroughs High of Burbank has been moved back half an hour to 7:30 p.m., according to the Burbank Leader.
Santa Clarita Christian, which has air conditioning in its gym, has continued volleyball practices as planned. Cardinal varsity football will play tomorrow at South Pasadena at the original time of 7 p.m.
