Tonight’s football game between West Ranch and Burroughs High of Burbank at Canyon High has been canceled due to air quality concerns.
Smoke and ash from the La Tuna Fire in Burbank have spread to Santa Clarita as a result of a shift in wind patterns.
“You could smell the smoke,” said West Ranch athletic director Cassandra Perez of the atmosphere at Harry Welch Stadium.
The game was originally rescheduled from Friday night at Burroughs to Saturday night at Canyon High. Perez said there is a slim chance the game will be rescheduled again.
“The best bet might be to find somebody for a Week 5 bye that we currently have scheduled,” Perez said. “But we need to check with the CIF to see if that’s a possibility.”
