Saugus football enters tonight’s game against Canyon after a steep loss to Valencia in which they only dented the scoreboard once, and it was on a field goal.

The Centurions should have better luck tonight against a Cowboys team that has yet to earn a win in the Foothill League.

Elijah Gragas has assumed the role of starting quarterback after Nathan Eldridge went out with injury earlier this season. He’s completed 61 of 116 passes for three touchdowns and has rushed for an additional four touchdowns.

The primary weapon on the ground for Saugus (4-4, 2-1) is Quinn Sheaffer, who has reached 912 yards on 162 carries this year.

Canyon, which is 8-5 all-time against the Cents, is still trying to pick up some momentum and recover from the previous season’s last-place league finish.

Running backs Taylor Tepesano and Ryan Valdes along with quarterback Shawn Gallagher have tried to get a spark in the ground game, but didn’t have any success last week, as Golden Valley shut them out 38-0.

Saugus currently is tied with Hart for second place in league and was ranked seventh in Division 6 in the latest CIF-Southern Section polls. Canyon (3-5, 0-3) is unranked.
