News Release

The Santa Clarita Philharmonic has announced its 2018-2019 concert season and welcomes applications for its fifth annual Student Concerto Competition.

The orchestra begins its sixth season on Dec. 2, with a lighter approach to the holidays. The first half of the concert will feature vocalist Rachel Cole joining the orchestra for several original compositions as well as some holiday favorites. Attendees will be thrilled with Cole’s beautiful voice and captivated by her engaging style.

The second half of the concert will feature orchestral holiday selections that will put everyone in a joyous spirit. The concert will conclude with a sing-a-long of the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s “Messiah.”

For the winter concert, “Youth and Pops” to be held March 3, the orchestra is scheduled to present the winner of the 5th Student Concerto Competition. Also on the program will be selections from Broadway shows, Hollywood film scores and other popular music. Both concerts will be held at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons.

The Student Concerto Competition is open to junior and senior high school students throughout the Santa Clarita area. Application must be submitted by Oct. 17.

Competition application details may be found on the orchestra website:
