The city of Santa Clarita is fortunate to have such a wide variety of cuisine options throughout our community. Whatever your cravings or dietary restrictions entail, you are sure to find the perfect restaurant to meet your needs in many of our neighborhoods. Now more than ever, I encourage you to patronize our local restaurants who have been significantly impacted by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The essential workers at these restaurants are working hard to adjust to a new normal in our community and greatly need all of our support.

Although dining-in with family, friends and loved ones is not possible at this time to help slow the spread of COVID-19, that should not deter you from taking advantage of curbside, takeout and delivery options that are available to you. Both The Signal and feedSCV have developed excellent resource maps and lists to help every resident easily locate the food establishments offering delivery and pickup options at this time, in every part of our city. From small family-owned restaurants to chain establishments and everything in between, each of us should consider eating locally and ordering out occasionally, if financially feasible.

When we choose to eat local, it greatly benefits our city’s economy and many other facets of our community. First, our support allows local restaurants to retain and hire local staff, many of whom are friends, family or neighbors of ours. Additionally, many of our local food establishments have launched their businesses in Santa Clarita and have remained in operation for decades, adding to the rich history and uniqueness of our city. Another benefit of shopping and eating locally is the reinvestment of sales taxes from your purchases back into the community you have chosen to call home.

The unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic has added stress and uncertainty to the lives of many, so I hope we can continue to stick together while staying apart in Santa Clarita. Even in times of struggle, it has been amazing to see so many local restaurants and businesses donate food and resources to essential workers, shelters, senior communities and more throughout our city. It is a reminder of the kindness and resilience that lives within Santa Clarita, and I encourage everyone to offer help and support to others when it’s possible to do so safely.

To support our local restaurants, why not start by taking part in #TakeoutTuesday? Every Tuesday, individuals are ordering from local restaurants for themselves and family, no matter how big or small the order is. If it is financially possible for you to participate, I encourage you to do so, or choose a better day of the week that fits your food needs and cravings! You may also find that many of our local restaurants are offering deals suitable for you as they adjust to Safer At Home guidelines. Let’s all do our part and support the hard-working local restaurants, along with the essential workers who keep them running, by choosing to eat local.
