A woman was arrested Wednesday following reports of a fight and a brandished gun in Newhall, according to law enforcement officials.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies received a call at around 1:55 p.m. about a person who had pulled out a gun on another person near Railroad Avenue and 16th Street, according to Lt. Rod Loughridge.

“There was an argument in the background from the caller,” he said. “Deputies contacted someone and arrested someone,” he said, confirming that the arrested individual was a woman.

Loughridge said he did not have immediate information as to whether a gun was found on the scene, located near Placerita Creek.

Earlier Wednesday, sheriff’s officials announced via social media that the station’s Crime Prevention unit was set to conduct a crime suppression operation in remote areas of the Santa Clara Riverbed, “as well as any additional open space areas that are not accessible by patrol cars.”

The incident was not related to the crime suppression, according to Sheriff’s Station spokeswoman Natalie Arriaga.
