I am just totally aghast after reading the (Sept. 6) article “Hollywood armorer writes the book on gun safety.”
I could not believe the arrogance and unfeeling nature in the following line: “It’s hard to believe that one isolated incident can affect the entire film industry. Peter said, ‘You know, I’ve been talking about doing this (the book) for a while. Someone needs to write down the do’s and don’ts.’ And I said, ‘Peter, who better than you?’”
An isolated incident? A woman was killed. It is termed “an isolated incident”?
Someone should tell this armorer that this book has been written already. I an 65 years old and I have been exposed to weapons since high school. The one fact that I can always remember is to “make sure the gun is safe.” Never, ever take another person’s word for that fact, but check yourself. This has been the prime directive for firearm safety for decades.
For this to happen on a modern film set is a travesty. For the weapon to have passed through (multiple) hands — and still be in a condition to kill — is sickening.
