Kat Connolly | It’s Fundamentally Incompatible

I am writing because my neighbors and I strongly oppose the construction of a 24-courtroom, eight-story courthouse in Valencia near the corner of McBean Parkway and Valencia Boulevard.

This project is fundamentally incompatible with the city of Santa Clarita’s master plan and with the existing retail and entertainment district — an area that is already thriving and slated for further redevelopment in the coming months.

Additionally, traffic remains the No. 1 concern for residents of the Santa Clarita Valley, and this project would significantly worsen congestion at an intersection that is already heavily burdened with delays.

The proposed lot is not adequate to accommodate a courthouse of this scale, and its proximity to established neighborhoods raises further concerns related to noise, safety and quality of life.

It is also clear that the state did not conduct adequate outreach with key stakeholders, including the city, local hospitals, nearby schools, businesses and residents. The recent community meeting was insufficient and provided far too little notice for meaningful participation.

For these reasons, as a concerned resident of our beautiful city, I urge our elected leaders to reject this proposal and pursue alternative locations or solutions that better reflect our community’s long-term planning, priorities, and character.

I urge all concerned residents to email and call the following offices: Kim Bobic, [email protected], 805-249-0911; Office of Sen. Suzette Valladares, Tanya Mikhail, [email protected], 661-286-1471. Office of Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo, Hugh Bower, [email protected], 661-286-1565; Mayor Bill Miranda: [email protected]
