Your article of Nov. 6 about the new districts makes it look like it’s going to be a fun new adventure for the representatives to get to know their constituents. In fact, Rep. Julia Brownley, D-Ventura, will be traveling all the way from Ventura to Castaic, having to cover Oxnard, Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Santa Paula, Piru and Castaic, but not Simi Valley. How could that be appropriate representation of all? By the way, does she live in Ventura, as you mentioned, or Oxnard? She might be in District 24!
Rep. Laura Friedman, D-Glendale, will be traveling all the way from West Hollywood to Acton, having to cover West Hollywood, Hollywood, Burbank (inclu-ding the airport), Glendale, North Hollywood, Van Nuys, Pacoima, San Fernando, Sylmar, Agua Dulce, and Acton. How could that be appropriate representation of all?
At least Rep. George Whitesides, D-Agua Dulce, will only have to cover the eastern desert, as well as Santa Clarita. Could he faithfully represent the interests of those desert people, as well as our middle-class suburbia? Or will he be beholden to the other dark blue Democrats in Washington, including, as Sen. John Kennedy says, “the moon wing” of the party?
Where’s our fair and balanced representation? Ditto for Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo, D-Chatsworth, who is beholden to the blue liberals of Porter Ranch and Sacramento. “Protecting democracy”?
