I attended the meeting on the closure of Bouquet Canyon Road. Representing the Lennar development were John Musella and Brian Bencz.
I have lived in Saugus on Alaminos Drive since the 1970s. I have had the pleasure of watching sheep grazing on our hillside, then the desecration of our hills for the sake of progress. We have lost so much of our natural beauty and resources due to developers’ visions and money greed.
Santa Clarita continues to place developers over people affected by this growth. Can you believe when we purchased our home, we were told that there would be no more tract development in our canyon?
Well, that didn’t work out.
But I was pleased to see our hillsides stand in their natural state. Now, that isn’t working out, either.
Santa Clarita was a wonderful treasure but is turning into just another crowded and common place. I guess you could say, we have lost our soul to big business. The plan for Lennar calls for closing off Bouquet Canyon before building the new road. The major reason is moving dirt, and building a flood plan, which is for Lennar, not us. In fact, they will tie into ours, which is proven more than adequate for us all these years.
Why didn’t Lennar address this issue of dirt before starting excavation? Why should our local residential streets have to configure for Lennar’s convenience? Why is our traffic engineers eager to put in numerous signals, widen streets, turn lanes, etc., to accommodate Lennar’s development?
Many of the ideas to keep traffic flowing will create unsafe and confusing problems. Schools and businesses are involved. They keep saying some streets will be only for the residents of the area. Who is checking? I didn’t choose to live behind gates.
By the way, Alaminos will become a main artery, and we don’t like it. It has happened before and it was a disaster. People will figure it out quickly, and it will put Rosedell Elementary School in jeopardy.
Unsafe. Where was our City Council?
