I wanted to thank Tim Whyte for his beautiful column (Jan. 31), “Kids, Hockey and a Snowy Highway.” His memories — especially of road trips, hockey families, and the quiet bonds formed along the way — were deeply moving.
Tragedy has a way of reminding us how precious life is, and how important it is to pause and appreciate the people we love while we can. His reflections on those moments with his children, and on the shared experiences that stay with us long after the games end, truly resonated.
I was especially struck by his story about the pilot — a former military aviator — who safely landed the plane in difficult conditions. His description brought a genuine smile to my face. Yes, they really are “bad asses.” The skill, discipline and calm required to perform under that kind of pressure is extraordinary.
As a former Marine’s wife, I have deep respect for those who serve and for the responsibility they carry, often quietly and without recognition. That moment in the column captured that truth perfectly.
Thank you for publishing a piece that reminded us not only of loss, but also of courage, gratitude and the everyday memories that matter most.
