The Santa Clarita Master Chorale invites the community to its performance, “Praise & Passion,” scheduled 4 p.m. Sunday, March 8, at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia.
“Step into a world of divine harmony at ‘Praise & Passion,’ a classical choral concert showcasing the transcendent beauty of Mozart’s ‘Great Mass in C Minor’ and the rarely performed ‘Requiem’ by José Maurício Nunes Garcia,” said a news release from the choral group. “This unique musical experience unearths two exquisite gems of the choral repertoire, blending Mozart’s masterful brilliance with Garcia’s soul-stirring passion.”
“I am truly excited about our ‘Praise and Passion’ concert on March 8,” Artistic Director Allan Petker said in the release. “‘The Great Mass in C Minor’ is my favorite major work by Mozart because it displays how he merged beauty and complexity so seamlessly. The Garcia ‘Requiem’ was written about 30 years later and, because it comes from South America, it shows how 18th century classicism was flourishing in a different continent. This concert brings together the spiritual depth of the Garcia ‘Requiem’ with the sublime beauty of Mozart’s ‘Great Mass in C Minor,’ offering our audience a profound musical experience.”
A pre-concert lecture will be offered at 3:30 p.m., presented by Petker and Hugo Vera, director of vocal arts and opera at California State University, Northridge, that is designed to enhance guests’ understanding and appreciation of the concert.
