The February meeting of the Chiquita Canyon Landfill Community Advisory Committee was held in the Castaic Library, as usual, on the second Tuesday of the month. Three items stand out from that Feb 10 meeting.

1. Status of injunctive relief, i.e. negotiations between L.A. County and the landfill.

Reported by Natalie Bartanian of Supervisor Kathryn Barger’s office: “Unfortunately, again, we don’t have an update.”

2. The South Coast Air Quality Management District now responds to odor complaints seven days per week (formerly five). Reported by Larry Israel, SCAQMD.

3. Several complaints were voiced that the legal process is moving too slow.

The following were not discussed:

1. Program of medical care for those claiming illness.

2. Temporary relocation program for renters.

3. Permanent relocation program for homeowners.

4. Status of health of Chiquita Canyon Landfill (Waste Connections) outdoor workers.

5. Medical health survey of Live Oak residents.

6. Discussion with California Regional Multiple Listing Service regarding a proper warning when a “tainted” residence is offered for rent or for sale. “Tainted” here is shorthand for properties that were on a list of 938 addresses that would have been qualified recipients of money from a temporary relocation program, had the injunctive relief program of The People of the State of California, et al. v. Chiquita Canyon, LLC, et al., case number 2:24-cv-10819-MEMF (MARx), been activated.

7. Monitoring of current CRMLS listings for reasonable bad air warnings.

8. Expansion of the Purple Air network of air monitors to cover the Avenida Rancho Tesoro, Via el Balneario neighborhood.
