Screwball comedy comes to Santa Clarita Valley residents’ screens this weekend as Buzz Classic Movies presents a Saturday night showing of “My Man Godfrey.”

The 1936 film starring Carole Lombard and William Powell has earned a 97% “fresh” rating from the critics based on 38 reviews, and a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes’ “Popcornmeter” based on more than 5,000 ratings.

“Fifth Avenue socialite Irene Bullock needs a forgotten man to win a scavenger hunt, and no one fits that description more than Godfrey Park, who resides in a dump by the East River,” says the Rotten Tomatoes summary of the movie. “Irene hires Godfrey as a servant for her riotously unhinged family, to the chagrin of her spoiled sister, Cornelia, who tries her best to get Godfrey fired. As Irene falls for her new butler, Godfrey turns the tables and teaches the frivolous Bullocks a lesson or two.”

“‘My Man Godfrey’ emerges with that evasive quality that is not skillful playing, writing or direction, but something that mysteriously adds itself to these things, and makes a tip-top picture,” said a 2009 Time Magazine review.

“My Man Godfrey” streams at 8 p.m. Saturday on The Signal’s streaming channel, The Buzz, available at buzzscv.com as well as streaming platforms including Roku and Apple TV.
