News release
The William S. Hart Union High School District recognized outstanding student filmmakers at the Healthy Relationships PSA Awards Ceremony held on April 24 at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, said a news release from the district.
The event celebrated student creativity and advocacy in raising awareness about teen dating violence prevention and promoting healthy relationships among youth, the release said.
Through this districtwide initiative, junior high and high school students across the Hart district created short public service announcements no longer than two minutes. Each video encouraged awareness, prevention and positive relationship behaviors while inspiring peers to foster respect, communication and empathy in their interactions, the release said.
The annual PSA collaboration between the Hart district and the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department aims to empower students with the skills to identify healthy and unhealthy relationship dynamics, encourage open communication, and promote safety and respect within the community.
During the ceremony, sheriff’s Capt. Brandon Barclay and Hart District Assistant Superintendent of Student Services Tara Brown presented awards and certificates to the top student teams. The LASD is also sponsoring monetary prizes of $500 for first place and $250 for second and third place video production teams in both junior high and high school divisions.
