When voters go to the polls on Nov. 8, there is a clear choice to represent Area 2 for the College of the Canyons Board of Trustees: Bruce Fortine.

In his years on the board, Bruce has demonstrated over and over that he when he makes decisions, he does so with the best interests of students in mind. It is clear that he is dedicated to continuing to advance the college and ensure it is providing the best possible opportunities for the Santa Clarita Valley community.

As a longtime resident of the SCV, I have watched as COC has grown from a small school to one of California’s leading community colleges. Bruce also understands that a strong community college such as COC really does more than just provide education – it serves the community as a whole, including benefitting businesses.

Bruce is very accomplished in forming business partnerships, and that is certainly an area in which COC has excelled.

From top-notch career, technical education programs and resources available at the Small Business Development Center, to the training COC provided over the past year for more than 3,000 employees at 935 Santa Clarita Valley businesses, there is no shortage of resources that are helping build a better SCV workforce.

I believe I speak for all my fellow business owners when I stress how important and appreciated that is. As a board member, Bruce clearly has significant knowledge of business and education and is a leader in ensuring COC is providing the programs needed to pave the way for career and business success.
