College of the Canyons football bested Bakersfield College, 14-10, on the road Saturday in the Cougars’ regular-season finale.

COC (5-5 overall, 3-2 in National Division, Northern Conference) trailed for nearly the entire game and needed a late stop inside its 5-yard line to earned the win and finish at .500.

Cougars quarterback Matt Moore ran for a 1-yard touchdown to give COC, after an extra point, a 14-10 lead with four minutes left in the game.

Then things got interesting.

The Renegades (6-4, 2-3) drove to the COC 3-yard line inside of two minutes to play.

But a Bakersfield penalty, an incomplete pass, a rush for no gain and another incompletion later, the Cougars prevailed with the victory.

Moore completed 20-of-42 passes for 251 yards and four interceptions, easily his least productive outing since taking over the starting job three weeks earlier.

Cougar Dorian Gerald recorded three sacks to give him 12 for the season, third-most in the state.

COC finished second in the Northern Conference. Ventura finished conference play 5-0.
