The tree is already up, but the lights won’t shine until 7 p.m. on December 1 this year. Valencia Marketplace in Stevenson Ranch is bringing back its tree lighting for the second year, with a night of holiday festivities starting at 5 p.m. “We expect a nice crowd,” said Connie Cashin, the marketing director for Valencia Marketplace. Families with children should arrive early to partake in all of the holiday fun. The event boasts a magician, storytelling and holiday activities at the library, and a chance to meet with the head elf himself, Santa Claus. Kids will get the chance to tell Mr. Claus what they want for the holidays, and parents can grab a photo or two to include with holiday cards. At 7 p.m. sharp, Santa will help several community leaders pull the lever and light the tree. Make sure to watch for a few surprises! But the fun isn’t over when the lights go on. There’ll be a community sing-a-long with the West Ranch High School choir. “Everybody can join in and sing” their favorite holiday songs, Cashin said. The lighting of the tree marks the official start of December, and time to start planning holiday and end-of-year parties. Valencia Marketplace offers restaurants that cater, holiday décor and party supplies, as well as any holiday shopping. “We have stories that carry basically anything you could imagine,” Cashin said. And after the holidays have come and gone, families can enjoy the marketplace’s quarterly kids club, their Summer Sunset Concert series, and more.
