Canyon High edged out West Ranch 10-9 at West Ranch on Tuesday.

Heading into the fourth inning, West Ranch was ahead 2-1.

The Cowboys (13-12-1 overall, 4-5 in Foothill League) stormed into that frame and scored seven runs.

West Ranch (10-16, 3-6) answered with seven runs of its own in the bottom of the fourth to take a 9-8 lead.

“I think we’re the best hitting team in the league,” said West Ranch coach Jay Creps. “But we will always have an error-filled inning. And that seems to get to us, but then our girls always seem to want to come back.”

Canyon coach Jeannette Sauceda Reynolds’ message to her team was simple: Hit.

“Just go out and hit,” Reynolds said. “And then, too, when we get runners on, a lot of times our girls â€Ĥ they want to hit home runs and you’ve just got to base hit. And that’s what they did.”

Canyon tied the score 9-9 in the sixth, and the possibility of extra innings loomed.

But in the top of the seventh, Cayla Calderon hit a game-winning RBI single.

“She’s a senior captain and she’s always giving 100 percent effort,” Reynolds said.

Canyon’s Melissa Spencer, Erika Andrus and Alexis DeYoung each had three hits, while Kailee Powell had two RBIs.

West Ranch’s Kaeli Sorensen went 3-for-4, and Sara Olson was 2-for-3.

Wildcat Aerin Mellott went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Valencia 6, Golden Valley 0

The Vikings moved to 9-0 in league behind 16 strikeouts from Shea O’Leary, who tossed a complete game two-hitter.

Ally Shipman hit two home runs. Noel Dominguez homered.

Cassidy Cangemi struck out 11 for the Grizzlies, who fell to 3-6 in league.

Saugus 13, Hart 8

Clarissa Ellwein went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, while Jessica Cordola was 4-for-5 with five RBIs for Saugus (15-12, 5-4).

Ellwein, Cordola and Cassidy FitzGerald hit back to back to back home runs.

Brooke Marquez and Aly Kaneshiro each had three RBIs for Hart (14-12, 3-6).
