A health care town hall was held Saturday, Oct. 14, in Valencia. Republican Congressman Steve Knight was not available to attend, so Congressman Ted Lieu, D-Los Angeles, and several health care professionals accepted the invitation to take his place.

There appeared to be a full house of attendees, a majority of whom showed support for the Democratic congressman. In attendance was also a relatively small group of Trump supporters who made their opposition known by shouting over much of what Congressman Lieu had to say about the current health care insurance crisis brought on by the recent dismantling of Obamacare by President Trump.

The tension in the room was palpable as both sides of the political divide screamed at one another.

Given the multiple outbursts by the Trump supporters, it was obvious that their signed pledges to maintain civility and respect for the speakers were not followed nor enforced during the town hall event.

Surprisingly, there appeared to be no uniformed security officers present in the room.

Eli Branden is a Santa Clarita resident.
