“Superintendent Vicki Engbrecht has been a real asset for the William S. Hart Union High School District as school leaders navigated through the challenges of opening a state-of-the-art high school from scratch in Castaic.”

— Richard Budman, Signal Publisher/Owner

The William S. Hart Union High School District announced its plan to introduce a new superintendent to succeed Vicki Engbrecht earlier this year, which wraps up a career that has largely been spent in service of Santa Clarita Valley students and classrooms at every level of the K-12 spectrum — from elementary schools to junior high and high school.

Engbrecht started her career in teaching in 1976 at Sierra Vista, where she earned Hart District Teacher of the Year and Los Angeles County Teacher of the Year.

Her career also included teaching English at Saugus High and, in 1991, she moved into administration when she became dean of students at Canyon High School. She was promoted to assistant principal at Canyon two years later, and was named principal of Canyon High School in 1997. She moved into the district office in 2002, when she became the district’s director of curriculum and assessment. She became superintendent in 2014, and is expected to step down when her current contract expires in 2020.
