Hear, hear to the Sept. 22 letter by Don Ricketts about the woeful deficiencies of the city library system. Not only has the city taken financial hits from their decisions, but the system has never worked once withdrawing from L A County was implemented. I love to follow authors’ series in the order of publication. That ability for me ceased when the city joined Library System Services. A little-known fact was that it was up to the discretion of the library holding a book to decide to transfer the book or not. I cannot tell you how many times the book I sought was shown to be in the library’s inventory, but not available for transfer (Riverside was the worst). I even contacted the other libraries in the system myself, but no luck. The city library’s current inventory is ridiculous. I have been forced to go digital with my books (sad, because I love the feel of turning pages) from L.A. County to avoid having to drive to Stevenson Ranch to pick up a book (I live in Pinetree). Get us a decent library. Bring back the county.
