A man and woman were arrested on suspicion of having a firearm concealed in a vehicle and an obliterated firearm serial number during a traffic stop on the northbound Interstate 5 south of Magic Mountain Parkway on Monday morning, according to officials with the California Highway Patrol Newhall-area Office.
The vehicle yielded to the off ramp and a CHP motor officer investigated and determined the vehicle was to be towed and placed on a 30-day hold, according to an email statement by Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez with the CHP.
An assault rifle along with controlled substances were located within the vehicle, the statement said.
The driver and the passenger were both placed under arrest on suspicion of two felonies — a firearm concealed in a vehicle and an obliterated firearm serial number, the email statement said.
This investigation is ongoing, and potential additional charges are pending at the time of this publication, according to the email statement.
