News release
Finally Family Homes invites the community to a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house scheduled 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, to unveil its fully furnished and decorated Oasis Resource Center in Newhall.
Finally Family Homes is a local nonprofit that partners with young adults ages 18-26 who have aged out of foster care, are at risk of homelessness, or are struggling to find stability without a reliable safety net.
Founded in 2017, Finally Family Homes has served more than 400 young adults and their children, the nonprofit said in a news release. The new Oasis Resource Center gives them a safe, welcoming place to go for food, basic needs, housing support, and connection with caring adults, the release said.
Over the past year, the space has been transformed into a warm, home-like environment designed to restore dignity and build community for those who often have nowhere else to turn, according to the release.
“We’re excited to open the doors and show our community what they’ve helped make possible,” Christina Dronen, founder and executive director of Finally Family Homes, said in the release. “Many of the young adults we serve have aged out of foster care or lost housing at 18. Oasis is a place where they can exhale, get practical support, and know they are seen, valued, and not alone.”
The ribbon cutting will include brief remarks, a tour of the fully furnished and decorated center, and light refreshments.
As part of the event, Finally Family Homes is asking guests and community members to help stock the hygiene shelves at Oasis by donating items to their top needs at the moment: shampoo, body wash and face wash.
Full-sized, new, unopened items can be brought to the ribbon cutting or dropped off at the Oasis Resource Center during open hours.
“These basic items seem small, but for a young adult who’s struggling to get by, having what they need to get clean and feel presentable can change how they face the day,” Dronen added. “Our goal is to make sure every young adult who walks through our doors is seen, cared for, and leaves with their head a little higher.”
The Oasis Center is located at 23120 Lyons Ave., No. 19, Newhall.
