Crime and melodrama come to Buzz Classic Movies this week with a Saturday night showing of “Scarlet Street,” starring Edward G. Robinson, Joan Bennett and Dan Duryea.
The 1945 film has earned a 100% “fresh” rating from the critics based on 17 reviews, and an 87% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes’ “Popcornmeter” based on more than 2,500 ratings.
“A woman’s fiancé persuades her to con a man out of the fortune they mistakenly assume he possesses,” says the Rotten Tomatoes summary of the movie.
“You can be assured that Mr. Robinson, Miss Bennett and Mr. Duryea give their best melodramatic efforts to this study of crime and its sure punishment,” critic Marjory Adams wrote in the Boston Globe in 2020.
“Scarlet Street” streams at 8 p.m. Saturday on The Signal’s streaming channel, The Buzz, available at buzzscv.com as well as streaming platforms including Roku and Apple TV.
