News release

The city of Santa Clarita invites residents and visitors to celebrate the grand reopening of the William S. Hart Park Museum on Friday, April 10, at 10 a.m. This milestone marks six years since residents have been able to access the Santa Clarita Valley’s most treasured historic site, the city said in a news release.

Located within William S. Hart Park, the Hart Museum offers a unique opportunity for guests to step back in time and explore the life and legacy of silent film star William S. Hart, as well as the rich history of the American West, the release said.

Originally home to William S. Hart, the mansion remains largely preserved with his original furnishings, artwork, personal belongings and artifacts. Visitors will have the opportunity to view a collection of Western art, Native American textiles and memorabilia from Hart’s career in early Hollywood.

The home also features unique items gifted by notable figures such as Wyatt Earp and Will Rogers.

Following Hart’s death, he bequeathed his home, belongings and surrounding land to the public, ensuring future generations could enjoy and learn from this historic site. Today, the city of Santa Clarita serves as the steward of the park, preserving its legacy for the community.

The reopening is the result of a partnership between the city of Santa Clarita and the County of Los Angeles. Los Angeles County 5th District Supervisor Kathryn Barger played a key role in supporting the transfer of ownership and ensuring the continued preservation of the site, the release said.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, guests are invited to guided tours of the Hart Mansion. Visitors can also explore the park’s amenities, including the barnyard animals, Hart Hall featuring a film presentation, the Ranch House and scenic trails throughout the more than 160-acre park.

Community partners, including the Friends of Hart Park, the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society, city of Santa Clarita Recreation and the Santa Clarita Public Library, will also be on-site to share additional information and resources.

Parking and Shuttle Information: Guests are encouraged to park at Hart Park or in Old Town Newhall and ride the city shuttle to the top of the hill. The shuttle will begin operating at 9 a.m. from the lower parking area. Guests are encouraged to arrive before 9:30 a.m. to take the shuttle to the mansion event site. For those who prefer to walk, the trail route to the mansion is approximately a 10-minute uphill walk (0.4 miles).

Special Giveaways: Attendees will have the opportunity to receive special giveaways, including small bison plush items, special edition Santa Clarita Public Library cards featuring the Hart Mansion and commemorative challenge coins with the Hart Park logo.
