The truth was told at the 2026 Winter Olympics, where some of the athletics turned political by speaking out against Donald Trump’s presidency.
USA skier Hunter Hess spoke out about the “toxicity” of Trump’s presidency, and naturally in Trump’s revenge mode he called Hunter Hess a “loser.”
Hunter Hess has also said that he and some of the other 2026 Winter Olympicians expressed discomfort with representing the USA because it brings mixed emotions to represent the USA given the toxic political climate.
Hunter Hess said: “Just because I’m wearing the American flag doesn’t mean I represent everything that’s going on in the USA.” Hess’ statement reflects the view of many Americans.
At the opening ceremony JD Vance was booed at the 2026 Winter Olympics backing up in essence what (some) athletes have said about the toxicity of Trump’s presidency.
Figure skater Amber Glenn also criticized the present administration’s policies against the LGBTQ community.
Snowboarder Chloe Kim backed up Hess’ view about Trump’s presidency by expressing her feelings about her parents being immigrants, and the immigration problem in the USA hit home for her.
Kim asked the other athletes in the 2026 Winter Olympics to please “lead with love and compassion” while the mass deportations in the U.S. efforts have been roiled by violence, cruelty and lawlessness.
These 2026 Olympic athletes have every right to express their feelings about their country, whether it’s positive or negative and these athletes are as patriotic as any other American wanting to express their view about their country.
This situation about speaking out with the truth underscores the ongoing tension between this administration and individuals in sports who use their platforms to voice political concerns.
I salute the 2026 Winter Olympic athletes and so should all of America for their courage to speak out about the truth.
Lest we forget, “the truth will set you free.”
