With a 15-2 road win over the Canyon Cowboys on Thursday, the Trinity Knights recorded their fourth win of the season on the back of their offense that tallied 15 runs and 13 hits.
“I think we came out with a ton of energy today. The guys played for each other, and did a great job picking each other up,” Trinity head coach Justin Stark said.
Junior right-hander Andrew Carlson, who’s a commit to Texas Christian University, recorded 11 strikeouts across five innings of work and allowed two runs.
In the first inning, Canyon’s (3-1) Brody Bayliss got on base with a single and later scored after an error from Trinity’s (4-2) infield. And in the fifth inning, Carlson had another run scored in on him after Canyon’s James Turners scored off a passed ball.
After the game, Stark said Carlson didn’t have his best stuff but still threw the right pitches to get out of jams and get his team back into the dugout.
“He’s a great pitcher, you know. Not a lot of teams are going to be able to beat that guy when he’s on,” he said. “Didn’t have his best stuff today, but went out there and competed, gave us a chance to win.”
But on offense, Carlson had a big day.
In the top of the first, Carlson hit a one-run single to drive in Quinn Minyard and finished the day going 1-for-2 at the plate with one run batted in and two walks.
Minyard had the biggest day for the Knights on offense as he ended the day 3-for-5 with three runs batted in and recorded a double.
Stark added after the game his offense was “selfless” and came out with a good approach when runners were in scoring position.
“They just came out with a really good approach today,” he said. “They were selfless. We didn’t see a lot of selfish at bats. And just did a great job making the defense work, putting the ball on the ground, hardline drives, and just overall, played like a team today.”
The Cowboys ended the day on offense with two hits and left five on base. The Cowboys will look to bounce back on Saturday at Canyon High School against the visiting Nordhoff Rangers of Ojai with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m.
As for Trinity, the Knights look to keep up their winning momentum with their next game on Saturday against the Fillmore Flashes with first pitch scheduled for 10 a.m. at the William S. Hart Baseball & Softball Complex.
