While Gary Horton believes he spent a career building things and while his crew might have woken up early, Gary seems to have slept through it all. To start with (commentary, April 15), he uses Finland as an example of a country with high moral character, for fighting wars and now avoiding war for 80 years.
Perhaps it would have been better if he had checked a history book. Gary would have found, in 1939 Russia invaded Finland, and Finland fought hard to keep from being overrun, even though they lost approximately 11% of their country. From 1941 through 1944 Finland allied with Germany, and Adolf Hitler, to fight the Russians, and then in 1945 they switched sides to fight with the Russians against the Germans. That does not sound like a country with a high moral character. It sounds more like a country willing to do anything, with anyone, if they feel it is in their best interest at the time.
Next Gary opines about American airstrikes against civilian power and water infrastructure. Yes, our president did threaten to do just that, but it never happened, as he pulled back when Iran started to negotiate. Airstrikes have been targeting military, nuclear and war-purposed manufacturing installations, avoiding harm to regular citizens. I wonder why Gary fell short of talking about Iran and their proxies intentionally sending rockets and drones over civilian populated areas in Israel and neighboring Arab states.
