After a six-year closure, the historic home of Western silent film star William S. Hart has reopened. Located inside Hart Park, the museum offers guided tours, featuring original Western art, Native American artifacts and the personal belongings of Hart, a well-known Santa Clarita Valley resident.

Explore the world of William S. Hart and step back into Hollywood in the 1920s. Hart was a stage actor who transitioned into movies around age 50. Once on the silver screen Hart quickly became one of the most successful actors in the world with his distinctive “good bad guy” characters. Discover his story through a guided house tour and the self-guided tour through the park.

Hart’s most famous films include “Tumbleweeds” (1925), “Hell’s Hinges” (1916), and “The Bargain” (1914). Other notable films include “The Toll Gate” (1920), “The Return of Draw Egan” (1916), and “Wild Bill Hickok” (1923).

Hart died June 23, 1946 and left his estate to the people of Los Angeles. Santa Clarita took stewardship of the park and mansion in July 2025.

Hart’s home boasts a significant collection of Western art, featuring famous artists like Charles M. Russell and Frederic Remington. The 22-room mansion, known as “La Loma de los Vientos,” also displays works by illustrator James Montgomery Flagg (the creator of “Uncle Sam”) and Western artist Joe De Yong.

Featuring real mummies from across the globe, Mummies of the World: The Exhibition returns to the California Science Center for the final stop on its international tour and includes a new selection of mummies never before seen in Los Angeles.

Come face-to-face with naturally and intentionally preserved human and animal mummies from ancient Egypt, South America and Europe, along with authentic burial objects, interactive AV experiences, and mummification tools.

Uncover the stories revealed through CT scans and analysis of the full-body mummies.

Discover how the scientific study of mummies provides a window into the lives of ancient people, past cultures and an ever-changing world. Presented with dignity and respect, this compelling collection offers unprecedented insights into the past.

Since its world premiere at the California Science Center in 2010, the exhibition has been seen by more than 2.4 million visitors worldwide.

Among the exhibit highlights include

Select specimens never-before-seen in Los Angeles and rarely toured, including:

18th-century medical mummies.

Two mummified ancient Egyptian priests.

Shrunken sloth head.

Two ancient Peruvian bundle mummies, making their West Coast debut and on tour for the first time in over 60 years.

MUMAB (Mummy of the University of Maryland at Baltimore), the first ancient Egyptian-style mummification performed in 2,800 years to examine through replication the famous but poorly understood procedure.

While core exhibit galleries at the Science Center are always free and do not require a reservation, major exhibits do require a reservation.
