News release

The Santa Clarita Artists Association is inviting the community to its April meeting, featuring a free presentation by painter, educator and ColorWheel inventor Glen Knowles, the SCAA announced in a news release.

The event is scheduled 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Old Town Newhall Library Community Room. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and guests are encouraged to arrive early to mingle.

A third-generation Southern Californian born in 1952, Knowles graduated from Art Center College of Design in 1975 after studying under artists like Robert Clunie, Rex Brandt and Glenn Vilppu. His plein air landscapes, watercolors and oils draw from California impressionists and adventures in Europe’s Alps, the John Muir Wilderness and beyond.

For 40 years as an Antelope Valley College professor, he’s mentored over 5,000 students in his art classes (including L.A. Zoo sessions), portraiture and color theory. Splash 3 named him among America’s top watercolorists. Honors include first place at the 1999 California Art Club and curating six historic Southern California exhibits, the release said.

Knowles is slated to transform a delicate watercolor sketch into a vibrant oil masterpiece, unveiling composition secrets and techniques honed over decades, the release said.

The Old Town Newhall Library is located at 24500 Main St., Newhall. More information on the SCAA is available at www.santaclaritaartists.org.
