News release

The Santa Clarita Runners Club announced the return of the 42nd Annual Fourth of July Independence Day Classic.

This year’s event will feature three activities for participants of all ages and abilities, including a Kid K, a 5K run, and a 1 Mile Masters Walk, said a news release from the local runners club.

The 5K and Masters Walk will begin at Newhall Park and follow the Fourth of July parade route, offering participants a unique opportunity to be part of the city’s holiday celebration. The Kid K will take place along Dalbey Drive, giving young runners the thrill of crossing the same official finish line as the 5K participants, the release said.

Awards will be presented for top finishers as well as the largest and fastest teams, and participants are encouraged to gather friends, family and coworkers to compete together.

“We’re excited to bring this tradition back for the 42nd year,” Martin Lilly, president of the Santa Clarita Runners Club, said in the release. “It’s a great way for families, runners and walkers to come together and celebrate the Fourth of July in a fun and healthy way.”

Participants are encouraged to register early to secure their spot, as the event was sold out for the past two years, the release said.
