News release

The Santa Clarita Artists Association is issuing a call for artists as it plans for the 36th Annual Art Classic Fine Art Competition & Exhibit.

Online submissions are due by Sept. 23 and the professionally judged exhibition is scheduled Oct. 3 and 4 in Cedar Hall at The Centre (20880 Centre Pointe Parkway), newly appointed SCAA President Pro Tem and Event Chair Tobi Beck announced in a news release.

Serving as SCAA’s premier public fundraiser and showcase, the Art Classic is evolving under Beck’s direction to celebrate contemporary creators with two newly defined media categories, the release said. The competition now features 10 distinct media divisions: Digital Art and Fluid Media, alongside traditional favorites like Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor, Dry Media, 2D Mixed Media & Collage, Photography, Sculpture & 3D Art, and an elite Masters Division.

All visual artists in the community aged 16 or older are invited to submit their original artwork. To enter, participants need to become active members of SCAA online. The final online submission deadline is Wednesday, Sept. 23, at midnight.

The public weekend schedule offers two distinct ways to experience the collection: The Awards Presentation & Artist Celebration is scheduled Saturday, Oct. 3, from m1 to 5 p.m. It features the live presentation of competitive ribbons, Best of Show, and the Excellence in Art award presented by the city of Santa Clarita. Attendees will enjoy live musical entertainment, light appetizers and fine desserts, the release said.

Free public viewing hours are scheduled Sunday, Oct. 4, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is a casual browsing experience for families, residents, and art lovers to view the complete collection, including ribbon-winners, according to the release.

Every original masterpiece will be available for purchase, alongside a silent auction directly supporting member programming and the annual High School Student Art Scholarship fund.

SCAA is inviting local businesses, sponsors and patrons to support their community programming by donating themed gift baskets, gift certificates, or custom experiences to the silent auction.

SCAA ribbon-winning works will also stand on display for an exclusive public encore showcase at the SCAA Gallery (22508 6th St.) from Oct. 9-11, the release said.

Admission to the entire weekend exhibition is completely free to the public; however, advanced digital RSVP registration is required for entry to Saturday’s awards celebration. To reserve free Saturday seats, submit an artwork entry, or register a silent auction donation, visit santaclaritaartists.org/scaa-art-classic.
