News release
The Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center is inviting the community to celebrate the organization’s 50th anniversary with an open house and orchestra performance on Oct. 10.
The Santa Clarita Valley Committee on Aging was formed as private nonprofit corporation in September 1976. The organization was founded on the principles of providing supports and services to seniors in the Santa Clarita Valley that otherwise would not be available.
Better known as the SCV Senior Center, the organization now includes over 12 different programs and services supporting thousands of seniors every year. The center is supported by over 110 staff members and over 300 volunteers every month.
“The board of directors for the Senior Center over the years included many of the Santa Clarita (Valley’s) brightest minds and hardest workers,” said a news release from the center. “There were challenging years and some great successes.”
The center’s original headquarters were on Market Street adjacent to Hart Park with the support of the county of Los Angeles for over 40 years. The center outgrew the Market Street location and opened Bella Vida in 2019 as one of the elite centers in Los Angeles County, the release said.
From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, the center, at 27180 Golden Valley Road, will hold a 50th anniversary open house offering the community an opportunity to explore the Senior Center programs and services.
That evening, starting at 5 p.m., the Santa Clarita Valley Concert Band — a full 40-piece orchestra — will perform in the center’s ballroom.
Reservations ($10) for the performance are available at scvseniorcenter.org.
