The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has unanimously approved Supervisor Kathryn Barger’s appointment of Marlee Lauffer to the Measure ER Citizens’ Oversight Advisory Committee, the body charged with monitoring how revenue from the voter-approved health care sales tax measure is spent.

“Marlee has spent her career building trust between institutions and the communities they serve,” Barger, who represents the Santa Clarita Valley, said in a news release. “That’s exactly the perspective this committee needs as we hold the county accountable for every dollar Measure ER raises.”

Measure ER, approved by county voters in June 2026, established a half-cent sales tax to help fund county hospitals, community clinics, and other safety-net health services amid federal cuts to Medi-Cal funding.

The measure created a nine-member Citizens’ Oversight Advisory Committee to review revenue and expenditures, evaluate the county’s annual independent audit, and report publicly on how funds are allocated.

Lauffer brings more than three decades of communications, marketing, and community relations experience in Los Angeles County to the role. She retired in June 2026 after serving as president of the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Foundation and vice president of marketing and communications for Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, positions she has held since 2015, where she directed the foundation’s fundraising and advocacy programs.

During her 11 years at Henry Mayo, Lauffer led fundraising efforts for the hospital’s new patient tower, securing over $15 million worth of financial contributions.

A UCLA graduate, Lauffer is a founding director of the Bank of Santa Clarita, a past chair of the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce, and the recipient of the College of the Canyons Foundation’s 2025 Silver Spur Community Service Award for her decades of civic involvement in the Santa Clarita Valley.

“Thank you to Supervisor Barger for this honor and entrusting me to serve on the Measure ER Citizens Oversight Advisory Committee,” Lauffer said in the release. “County residents deserve transparency and accountability of their taxpayer dollars and I will ensure this tax revenue is spent on what voters were promised.”

Lauffer will join the committee as it begins its work reviewing Measure ER revenue and expenditures. The committee will make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors before they adopt a spending plan next spring for fiscal year 2027-2028.
