As I prepare to conclude my time on the Santa Clarita City Council, I find myself reflecting on one word: gratitude.

Serving on the City Council has been one of the greatest honors of my life. When I joined the council in 2017, I brought with me a passion for service and a belief that each of us has a responsibility to give back to the community that has given us so much. That belief has only grown stronger during my years on the council.

Santa Clarita is the community where Virginia and I raised our family, built our lives and created lifelong friendships. I have watched our city grow and evolve while maintaining the qualities that make it such a special place to call home.

Throughout my time on the council, I have been especially proud to advocate for our arts and cultural community, support our local businesses and champion the diversity that makes Santa Clarita such a beautiful mosaic. I have also been honored to be a voice for our Latino community and to help ensure that all residents know they have a place in Santa Clarita and an opportunity to help shape its future.

Together, we have opened incredible new facilities, expanded parks and recreational opportunities and invested in the places where our community gathers. We have celebrated during the good times and stood together through wildfires, a pandemic and, most recently, the devastating fire in Old Town Newhall.

While my time on the City Council may be coming to an end, my work is not done.

I will continue advocating for the arts and for spaces where local artists can create, perform and showcase their talents. I will continue supporting our business community and championing the cultures and traditions that enrich our city. And I will continue to stand behind Old Town Newhall as this special neighborhood rebuilds and moves forward.

Public service has also taught me that nothing meaningful is accomplished alone.

To my fellow council members, thank you for your partnership, friendship and shared commitment to the community we all love. To our incredible city staff, thank you for turning ideas into action every single day. I have seen firsthand the talent, professionalism and heart you bring to serving our residents, and it has been a privilege to work alongside you.

Most importantly, thank you to the residents of Santa Clarita. Thank you for trusting me to represent you, for sharing your ideas and concerns, for stopping me at community events to say hello and for giving me the opportunity to serve this extraordinary city.

I leave the council tremendously proud of what we have accomplished, but even more excited about what lies ahead for Santa Clarita.

Titles and positions may change, but a commitment to service does not. I may be stepping away from the dais, but I am not stepping away from the community I love.

Thank you, Santa Clarita. It has been the honor of a lifetime.
