News release
The National Honor Society has awarded Golden Valley High School the National Chapter of Distinction award.
The award was presented to the Golden Valley chapter “for its exemplary record of leadership, service, and efforts to improve the school and community,” said a news release from the William S. Hart Union High School District.
Golden Valley NHS members completed 2,660 hours of community service during the 2025-26 school year, the release said. Of those, 1,410 hours were spent supporting on-campus events and organizations.
Through their efforts, members also supported many local organizations such as the Child and Family Center, the city of Santa Clarita, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, and several local food pantries.
“The NHS Chapter of Distinction Award celebrates chapters that truly embody what the National Honor Society stands for — students who don’t just excel academically but actively strengthen their communities,” NPA Chief Executive Officer Ronn Nozoe said in the release. “The Golden Valley High School chapter demonstrates how powerful it can be when young leaders channel their talents toward meaningful service and positive change.”
NHS is supported by its parent organization, the National Principals Association, which also oversees the National Association of Student Councils.
The NHS Chapters of Distinction program is a national initiative recognizing National Honor Society chapters that exemplify operational excellence and leadership. To achieve this distinction, chapters must meet all Essential Standards while demonstrating exceptional performance in student governance, leadership development, and the four core pillars of the Honor Society: Leadership, Service, Scholarship, and Character.
The Golden Valley chapter is led by adviser Cathy Novean.
