As tired of a cliché as it might be, the saying “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it” is certainly true of the College of the Canyons Board of Trustees race this fall.
This Election Day, I encourage my fellow Santa Clarita Valley voters to cast their ballots for Bruce Fortine and Michele Jenkins to continue providing great leadership for COC.
As a member of the COC Board of Trustees since 2009, I have seen firsthand the commitment both Bruce and Michele have to continually improving an already great college.
When they make decisions, it is clearly with students’ best interests at the forefront.
They exemplify proven leadership that has resulted in stellar success for College of the Canyons. I believe it is a testament to their leadership that COC is the most innovative community college in California, if not the nation.
Under their leadership, COC students have the second-highest completion and success rate of all 113 community colleges statewide and 21st out of 1,750 community colleges in the country.
Being named the second-fastest-growing community college in America says something about the power of dedicated leaders.
Leaders such as Bruce and Michele also continue to embrace change and look to the future. They have had the foresight to see the huge demand for growth COC will need to meet in the coming years, and they were instrumental to the passage of Measure E, providing much-needed funding for campus improvements.
Being a fellow board member doesn’t sway my vote; it informs it. Bruce Fortine and Michele Jenkins have proven themselves time and again to be excellent leaders for COC, and they deserve your vote to continue representing Trustee Districts 2 and 4, respectively.
This Nov. 8, I urge my fellow voters to make the right decision for COC.
