The closure of upper Bouquet Canyon Road due to the flooding of the road is just another example of how large government and the current environmental rules have become overly excessive.

Our Los Angeles County workers have the capability of clearing out those silted-up ditches along the road in just a few days. But even after the L.A. County Board of Supervisors declared a local state of emergency to bypass costly permits, it has been 2 ½ years and folks are still talking about how best to get the job done (See Nov. 1, 2016, article in The Signal).

So the road through Texas Canyon will be closed through April 2017, when the rainy season is expected to end.

There are too many agencies and too many interest groups and too many rules with way too many ideas on how to spend your hard-earned taxpayer dollars.

To our county, state and federal agencies: Please keep it simple and just clean out the ditch.
