The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce recently announced the launch of FocusSCV, a leadership program for those looking to take an active role in helping shape the future of the Santa Clarita Valley.

The chamber has retooled and revitalized its previous leadership program to be substantially more robust and better match the needs of businesses in the SCV, said John Musella, spokesperson for the chamber.

“We’ve taken a lot of time to create a really valuable program that meets the modern-day needs of companies in training its future leaders,” he said.

The seven-month program, created in partnership with College of the Canyons, is designed to give directors, middle management, entrepreneurs and business owners the opportunity to learn more about business strategy, financial planning and leadership.

“The program will give our participants a different perspective into the Santa Clarita Valley and provide invaluable information for them to be able to take on their next leadership role,” Ivan Volschenk, chamber president, said in a statement.

Those interested in applying are asked to complete a questionnaire and Strengths Finder assessment to determine eligibility as well as help the chamber and SCV Economic Development Corp. pair them with a mentor.

Participants will be chosen by a panel of business leaders and educators from COC, whose goal is to obtain a wide variety of participants from different backgrounds, industries and skill sets, according to organizers.

The chamber is now accepting applications until March 11, and participation costs for those chosen are $2,000, which include the assessment, classes, networking mixers and graduation dinner. FocusSCV is scheduled to begin 1-5 p.m. on Friday, April 10, and continue one Friday a month through Oct. 9. For more information, visit SCVChamber.com or call 661-702-6977.
