In Re: Gary Horton and “Gun Control,” commentary, Oct. 1.
When I was a youngster all of us kids had at least one firearm and pre-1968 you could pretty much buy any firearm through the mail and have it delivered right to your home — no state or federal gun laws to speak of were in place at the time.
Human beings have been killing each other for a very long time and for way longer than firearms have been on the scene. When it comes to rifles, of all types [single shot, semi-auto, bolt action], more people are killed each year by methods other than with firearms[knives, hands, feet, blunt objects, cars] than are with rifles.
What is constant with murder is that there are evil people in the world — always have been and always will be — and if/when they decide to do their evil by killing others, no law, or the banning of lethal means, will ever stop them from doing so.
