I don’t know anything about Jack Teoli beyond the facts that he lives in Newhall, is a “Democratic constituent,” and passionately supported Proposition 50 (letters, Dec. 3) — that and his drivel about City Hall misreading “what its constituents want” and “constituent will.”

So, constituents’ wants and wills, huh? Is that what this is all about? Well, to that I’ll offer my own brief and blunt opinion of what I think of the wants and wills of Kool-Aid-drinkers.

Being neither a Democrat nor a Republican (I’m a registered independent) I believe most Republicans suck (for a variety of reasons), most Democrats suck even more (and for even more reasons). To quote one of our Founding Fathers, Thomas Jefferson: “A choice by the people themselves … the swinish multitude … is not generally distinguished for its wisdom.”

And as for “disconnects,” the biggest disconnect I can see is how the “will of the people” in California has produced a congressional representation where 54% of the voters are represented by nearly 90% of its House seats. To blazes with the other 46%, I suppose. Their “wants and wills” don’t need to be represented. That’s “fairness” for you. Or, to paraphrase Benjamin Franklin: Good luck to all of you with your oh so sacred “democracy,” if that’s what you want to call it.

I would gladly leave the U.S., but the rest of the world is infinitely more screwed up than we are.
