Larry Moore (letters, Jan. 4) focused on Nancy Pelosi and her husband, Paul Pelosi, and their stock trading. I want to focus on the pending legislation to ban congressional stock trading.

Our district Rep. George Whitesides is a leading supporter, by words and action, of the Restore Trust in Congress Act. This bipartisan legislation would ban members of Congress and their immediate families from owning, buying, or selling individual stocks or securities. Whitesides divested all his individual publicly traded stock holdings after being sworn into Congress, opting instead for broad mutual funds and exchange traded funds. Whether this bipartisan legislation can be approved in the Senate is irrelevant.

The Restore Trust in Congress Act needs a vote of each House member on the record so Americans can know where their district representatives stand on this issue.
