We want strong protection for our oaks. Please do not change our city’s ordinance protecting oaks without holding a public outreach event where you can hear ideas and concerns from the public. Remember, when the city was created, we made a seal to represent it. On the seal, the most prominent figure is the oak tree symbolizing the diversity of life this beautiful area provides, for not only us, but for thousands of other species we depend on for our survival. Please allow our input regarding any attempts to change the ordinance that preserves our oak trees! Thank you!

Editor’s note: According to to Andrew Adams, special districts manager for the city of Santa Clarita: The proposed updates create a limited ministerial permit process for specific situations on single-family residential properties where a legally established structure is located within an oak tree’s fall zone, while preserving existing review requirements in all other cases. Proposed mitigation for any authorized removal would consist of replacement planting or a contribution to the Oak Tree Preservation Fund.
