Local resident Jeannie Raimundo has founded 60s & Still Fabulous, a group for people ages 60 and over to form new friendships and have fun, with their first official “meet-up” on Friday, Aug. 7, at 7 p.m. at Casa Vieja in Canyon Country.

Raimundo said she decided to start the community group because she wanted to find friends to do activities with.

“I have a wonderful daughter that is on the spectrum, and she’s my traveling buddy, but I also realized that I want friendships with people who were going through the same stage of life that I was,” Raimundo said.

Raimundo got the idea after she was shopping with her daughter at a department store and a woman who was also shopping was chatting with Raimundo about a dress – saying she would have been sitting at home watching TV and ordering food or going shopping as a Sunday activity to do.

“And I left because that’s me, that was me. And then, at that time, it hit me, and we were both spending our Sunday the same way. And we were shopping because I didn’t really have anything else planned,” Raimundo said. “We could have been out laughing with friends, going to lunch, seeing a movie, and enjoying life together. And that’s when I decided to create a community where people our age could make friendships.”

Raimundo wants to assure people interested in joining the group that there is no sales pitch or networking opportunities; it is just a space to relax and enjoy each other’s company.

The address for Casa Vieja is 18401 Soledad Canyon Road, Canyon Country.
