Nowadays we are all bombarded with vast amounts of information regarding pretty much every aspect of our lives but we are seldom if ever given much information on exactly how all of this information is collected and reported. Figures concerning the population of the U.S. are compiled annually by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Sounds reasonable until you delve deeper and find out the Census Bureau surveys a whopping 1% of the “estimated population” of the country and it’s totally voluntary as there is no practical way for the bureau to verify the accuracy of the information provided by the respondent. They are quite literally depending on the honesty of the person filing out the forms.

Bottom line: No one really knows how many people are living in this country at any given time and what their legal or illegal status may be.

This allows people and organizations to make some pretty bizarre claims to sell their “theories” to others and people from both sides of the political aisle use this to their advantage, and I can’t think of anyone that does this more than politicians attempting to sell you on their BS to get your support or vote!
