Re: Jason Gibbs, commentary, Sept. 19. Jason, I wish you’d expressed more moderation before today. Honestly, you’ve been tinted MAGA red for most of the time in the Right Here, Right Now entries you’ve written, so the Sept. 19 RHRN column rings pretty hollow. Worse, claim for your moderate nonpartisanship is based upon an enabler that your own opinion and party have consistently expressed severe loathing of: the Gas Tax, or Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, or Senate Bill 1.

California voters passed SB1 to address infrastructure complaints, which Republicans yammered loudly about, yet they failed to get traction for any of their solutions. Were you or your party to dominate, SB1 would never have existed, and your nonpartisan participation never have come to pass. Indeed, I wager “nonpartisan” would not have been necessary.

In your March 21 diatribe against the gas tax, you misled and fed half truths, and spoke against clean air, without explicitly stating it. You also spoke against mitigating climate change without stating that explicitly.

I was a child in Southern California when leaded [non oxygenated] fuel was the norm in the L.A. Basin and it was bad. That is because there is a predominant inversion layer that does not change — ever. The inversion layer hardly garners a mention anymore because emissions are less toxic, less visible.

It’s a shame you want us to trust that you are moderate because if you are you haven’t been before. Your MAGA tint dooms your claim of moderation.
