News release
Local sci-fi author and retired Hart High School science teacher Cynthia Godwin, of Santa Clarita, has released her sci-fi novel “Choice of Alliance,” the first in the series “Gates of Telendra,” the author announced in a news release.
Godwin has been working toward publication over a varied career, the release said. She has degrees in biology and screenwriting. While single, she traveled the globe as a flight attendant with an international airline, collecting exotic, real world backdrops for her novels, the release said.
A second career took her into the classroom, where she taught earth science, biology, anatomy and chemistry courses. She is married and has raised a family in Santa Clarita for 30 years.
The novel needed a map, so Godwin contacted John Fossa, Hart High art teacher, for a recommendation. “When I taught at Hart,” she said in the release, “I was always impressed with the quality and professionalism of the students’ artwork. Their various projects were displayed every spring for the entire Hart community to view.”
Based on Fossa’s advice, Carter Stokes, Hart High senior at the time, was hired to draw the map that appears in the novel.
Set on Telendra, an uncharted planet, “Choice of Alliance” is the sci-fi story of Lt. Keely Hollis, a geo-engineer. Stranded and separated from her crew, she is caught in the
crossfire of a fierce interplanetary war. One side rules the system with ruthless technological supremacy, wielding energy weapons and a cruelty bred into their code. The mismatched resistance battles with swords, crossbows, and an unshakable creed that sustains them. The war demands a choice. Whatever Keely decides, there is no turning back.”
“Choice of Alliance” is available for purchase online.
