Rob Kerchner (Letters, Aug. 8) is not entirely correct in his assertion that “leftism is a religion for secularists.”
I found, to my amazement, that there are plenty of left-wingers who believe in God and go to church, as there are plenty of secularists who are right-wingers.
What does not amaze, but rather saddens me, is Mr. Kerchner’s observation that “humans need something bigger than themselves to believe in, to tell them who they are, etc.,” for in that sense religion and politics are exactly the same: the blind leading the blind, from which all other stupidities follow.
