Plus, scores from around the Foothill League in flag football
Following a loss in the team’s last contest, the Hart flag football team bounced back with a shutout 14-0 win over the visiting West Ranch Wildcats and kept its Foothill League title hopes alive on Tuesday.
“We understand that West Ranch is a tough team. They always play us tough and no one likes to lose to a team twice,” Hart head coach Josh Masmela said. “So, we knew [West Ranch] was going to come out hungry and wanted to get revenge on us.”
The Hawks (13-10, 7-3) completed the season sweep over the Wildcats (6-8, 5-4) following a victory earlier in the season.
The Hawks also remain in contention for a share of the flag football Foothill League title with a 7-3 league record.
The Hawks remained in second in the standings and two games behind the first-place Castaic Coyotes. Should the Coyotes lose their final two Foothill League games and the Hawks win out, both teams will share this season’s title.
Despite all the scenarios, Masmela has his sights focused on the team’s bigger goals: the playoffs.
“We’ve shifted our focus onto other things, and the league is out of our hands,” Masmela said. “It’s not under our control. So, we just have to go to these next two games and finish out strong, and then just get ready for playoffs.”
The Hawks play again 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Saugus High School against the Centurions.
The Wildcats fell to fourth in the Foothill League standings with a 5-4 record but remained in contention for an automatic playoff berth. They will look to remain in playoff contention on Thursday at Canyon High School against the Cowboys at 6:30 p.m.
